INTERSPINOUS PROCESS DEVICES

INDICATIONS

The indications for interspinous process devices is still in evolution, and insufficient strong clinical studies have been performed to clearly outline their indications, as various devices differ in some aspect of indication for usage.
The following should be seen as a GUIDELINES FOR USAGE, based on most reliable literature available:

1. Proven mild to moderate spinal stenosis causing leg symptoms, PLUS.
2. Failed conservative treatment AND/OR
3. Patient not medical fit to undergo more extensive procedure.

WARNINGS

1. Patients should be warned that only data relating to small patient numbers is available, and no long term studies available.
2. Each device has unique indications, that need to be taken into consideration before being used.
3. These devices are not indicated for the treatment of mechanical lumbar backache.
