Guidelines: SA Spine Society Traveling Fellowship

The South African Spine Society (SASS) as part of furthering education in spinal surgery has instituted a fellowship program for suitably qualified registrars in training.

The fellowship will consist of spending a 10 -14 days visiting various Spinal Academic Units or Equivalent Spinal Centre, where the candidate is not training.

The host spinal academic unit/s will be specified by the SASS Fellowship academic coordinator.

Funding for travel and accommodation will be provided for the successful candidate/s.

Applications need to be made in writing to the President of the SASS by no later than October of the year preceding the Fellowship year.

Requirements

South African resident.

Senior Neurosurgical or Orthopaedic registrar on recognized training program, in last or penultimate year

Recommendation from departmental head

Has an interest in spine surgery and intention to pursue it

Has at least one completed study for podium presentation at visited sites and SASS meeting

Willing to travel to other departments for a total of 7 - 14 days
